Moultonborough Central School maintains a commitment to student centered, community based education. MCS also has a strong focus on the Community Charter, supporting the ethical ideals of respect, responsibility, integrity, compassion and moral courage. The commitment to each child is a core tenet of the school's philosophy and underpins both daily interactions with children and a wide array of programs. The core classroom curriculum is supplemented by an extensive offering of programs and activities. The PTA strongly supports the arts and reading incentive programs, as well as provides many volunteer hours and targeted fundraising. MCS staff, along with the town recreation department, offer numerous activities after school and throughout the year.

The school is organized into three units: grades Preschool, Kindergarten, Readiness, 1 and 2; Grades 3 and 4; Grades 5 and 6. Unit leaders are selected by their peers to act as members of a school leadership team. Each week the leaders meet with administrators, as well as their units. Each unit has a full-time reading specialist and special education case manager/teacher with assistants as needed. MCS has a full time registered nurse, guidance counselor, library media specialist, and technology support technician, as well as a part time district assessment coordinator. The school district has a school psychologist speech and language pathologist, occupational therapist, and special education director.
