Getting to "Y"

Getting to “Y” (or GTY) is about student leaders bringing meaning to their school’s Youth Risk Behavior Survey data results. Through youth leadership, partnerships with adults, participatory action research, and peer and community engagement, students not only experience personal growth and build their capacity for future civic engagement, but also effect sustainable change in youth behavior, community, and school culture. GTY is a program from Up for Learning that has been rated by the Vermont Department of Health as an evidenced-based practice. It has been designated as a Best Practice by the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs and is included in their national Innovation Station database. Up for Learning teamed up with the University of Vermont and the Vermont Department of Health to publish a study about the impact of GTY. The name of the article is "Impact of Engaging Students in Health Survey Data Analysis and as Full Partners in School Change: Results From a Mixed Methods Study" and it can be found in the September 2021 issue of the peer-reviewed journal, Health Promotion Practice.

Choose Love

Choose Love

Choose Love is a social-emotional learning and character development curriculum. It is being implemented K-5th at MCS. Every school morning starts with a Choose Love lesson. All MCS teachers and staff member participate in the program. The 4 pillars of Choose Love (Courage, Gratitude, Forgiveness, and Compassion in Action) have become an important part of the culture at MCS.
